If you're an Oz fan and want to know all the tidbits that inspired L. Frank Baum to write his masterpiece, then this is the book for you. Between the trivia and how Baum created his characters makes for fascinating reading. The Chicago World's Fair of 1893, Baum's mother-in-law, the number 4, Theosophy, had a huge impact. Finding Oz is a terrific story and Evan I. Schwartz did a fantastic job of bringing Baum's brilliance to the printed page. Highly recommended.

This book was so good I could hardly put it down. I am recommending to all of my friends. I will certainly recommend it to my book club. This is now one of my favorite books.

In reading your book I have again learned more about the wonderful influences on L.Frank Baum and the Wizard of Oz. I am struck how the Columbian Exposition influenced the Emerald City and how Thomas Edison was what influenced the Wizard. So many things influenced Oz and make it the first American Fairy tale. This is a great book and well done. I am enjoying it immensely.

Caught your appearance with Tom Ashbrook on the NPR rebroadcast of On Point. A nice way to wrap up 2009.

A great interview, stuff you brought up I never heard before in a show or article. For example, the Baum connection to the oil business to the Tin Man's oil can, and to think the business is a going concern even today.

You got it right, Dorothy's story is about the transformation of consciousness. I used to meditate a lot, and it's clear Baum was tapping into something magical.

I hope Finding Oz ends up on audiobook, I didn't see it at Audible.

Best Regards,
Max Clarke

THANK YOU!! I just finished reading your book. What a treasure! I learned so much! Not just about Mr. Baum, but so much about history, politics, philosophy.

I knew a little background, because I have used The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in school with 5th and 6th graders. Most only knew the movie, and were unaware it had come from a book, and didn't believe it was written for them, not little kids.

My next step is to reread the original book. Thank you for this enjoyable experience.
