Donna911 review on BarnesandNoble.com: What a great book! It read like a novel, but gave an absorbing account of how Baum "created" Oz. From how the Emerald City got the green color, to the true color of the slippers, to where Dorothy and Toto got their names, it's all here. It's also a "how-to" book on how to write your own "Oz". I'm even having my daughter read this since not only are we both avid readers, but she's a budding writer. This book will enable her to glean from everyday life and turn life into art... or an artistic book, or "the" movie of the century!

I always wanted to read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and then The Life and times of the Wicked Witch of the West. Years passed and I finally I saw someone reading The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West and I finally bought and read the book. I was hooked. I then read son of a Witch and then had to read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. As I followed the characters it became apparent that each had what they were seeking. I didn’t think anything more about it until I heard Finding Oz. I loved reading Finding Oz and I was amazed. I love books like this because they keep me thinking. I live in Syracuse and plan to checkout the places L. Frank Baum Lived. I may even read more about the Theosophical Society.

I really enjoyed listening to you on NPR. I've been working on a thesis about L. Frank Baum and am amazed at the amount of people who don't know who he is! Hope to speak with you.

I just finished Finding Oz, and I thoroughly enjoyed it---and I'm not a big OZ fan!!! I was always curious about the details of the book and the story behind it. I also wondered about Baum's life. You answered all my questions and then some. What a shame it would have been to have the "Rainbow" song cut from the movie! Your book would make a good movie too.

"The Wizard of Oz' was the first novel I ever read. I was in second grade at the time, and up finishing the book I had decided to "be a writer when I grow up." I read the rest of L. Frank Baum's Oz books, then moved on to his other fantasy novels, then moved on to book about Baum--even though these have been few in number despite the fact that he was THE original American writer of fantasy, and gave the world the greatest children's book of the 20th century.
